José Calzada is a Dominican executive with background in the areas of high end real estate, tourism, communications/public relations, and governmental affairs. Prior to joining Casa de Campo Real Estate as Senior Vice President, he was VP and Country Manager for Newlink, a strategic communications, research and marketing consulting firm. Jose was also VP of American Express for eight years and led a marketing and sales team that launched financial products rated as best practices for AMEX. Such as the AMEX Casa de Campo Platinum Card.
José has strong links to the tourism and hotel industry and was the first business director of Altos de Chavón. He started his marketing and sales career working for the Sheraton Hotel chain. Concurrently, he has developed an expertise in the area of real estate, with a specialty in real estate transactions of high-end land intended for tourism developments, and is a consultant for investment funds. José served as director of food service at Mercasid and Induveca, responsible for the start-up in the areas of food and beverages supply to hotels and restaurants at tourist destinations in his country. He was a key player in the launch of Tricom, as the firm’s first Director of Marketing and Sales, José positioned the brand and promoted sales, challenging the telephone monopoly. Prior to his position with Tricom, José was named general manager of Capitol Air, the first airline to have direct flights to Puerto Plata, thus opening a new market in the country.
His successful lobbying ability and his deep geographical and cultural knowledge of the island have enabled him to successfully complete real estate and environmental approvals for his client portfolio. José, who is bilingual, has a bachelor’s degree in International Hotel Management from Florida International University in Miami and also has specialized studies in finance from New York University.
